TERMS OF SERVICE

Terms for exploring
this work in progress.

These terms govern your use of the Explore 1904 website and 3D reconstruction. By using the site, you agree to them.

Effective and last updated September 11, 2026

The project

Explore 1904 is a free, independent, educational reconstruction of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The site provides an interactive model, research notes, source links, comparisons and progress records. It currently has no user accounts, purchases or public upload features.

A provisional historical interpretation

The reconstruction is unfinished and interpretive. Buildings, landscapes, dates, dimensions, colors, identities and events may be incomplete, uncertain or wrong. Source notes explain much of that uncertainty, but they cannot cover every limitation. The model and accompanying text are provided for exploration and education and should not be treated as a definitive historical, architectural, engineering or legal record.

Permitted use

You may browse the site, use the 3D explorer and download materials that are expressly offered for download for personal, educational and other lawful purposes. Any reuse remains subject to applicable law, these terms, notices shown with the material and the rights of third-party sources.

Project and third-party rights

The site’s original text, software, design and model content may be protected by applicable intellectual-property laws unless a page or file says otherwise. Historical photographs, maps, books, archival records, trademarks and other third-party materials remain subject to the rights and terms of their creators, publishers and holding institutions. Their appearance or citation here does not transfer ownership, grant a separate reuse license, or imply sponsorship or endorsement. Check the source register and the linked institution before reusing archival material.

Responsible use

You agree not to:

  • use the site for unlawful, fraudulent or abusive activity;
  • interfere with the site, its hosting, security or other visitors’ access;
  • bypass access controls or probe for vulnerabilities without permission;
  • introduce malicious code or use automated traffic that places an unreasonable load on the service; or
  • misrepresent the project’s work as verified historical fact or imply an affiliation or endorsement that does not exist.

Links and services provided by others

The site links to archives, libraries, museums and other third-party services. Explore 1904 does not control their content, availability, security or privacy practices. A link identifies a source or useful destination; it does not guarantee the material or endorse the provider.

Availability and changes

The site, its features and its content may be corrected, changed, suspended or removed at any time. Access may be limited when needed for maintenance, security, legal compliance or protection of the service. The project does not promise uninterrupted access or the preservation of any particular model state.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or right that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Explore 1904 and its owner will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, opportunities or goodwill arising from use of, or inability to use, the site. Any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded remains limited only to the extent the law permits. These limits do not apply where the law forbids them.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the project develops. The current version will appear here with its effective date. Continuing to use the site after updated terms take effect means you accept the revised terms. If you do not agree, stop using the site.
